Bridal Show Checklist

563494_258556824269677_1411480114_n

Are you newly engaged and ready to begin planning?  Typically every bride from the moment that ring hits your finger (if not the day you started dating) you already have ideas of how your wedding will be.  Where do you begin?  Of course being a wedding planner, I highly recommend hiring a planner immediate for Full Service Planning because it just helps make the whole process easier and enjoyable for you.  However, if you feel that is out of your budget or you are not sure right away, a great way to find out is by attending a bridal show or open house.

Bridal shows and open houses are a fabulous way for a couple that does not have an idea of vendors, venues, or styles.  Pinterest is great for ideas but it definitely can not find and book your vendors for you.  First I want to just let you know the difference between a bridal show and an open house.  A bridal show is different from an open house because at bridal shows, there are many different venues there along with vendors.  An open house is actually at the venue and they have a preferred amount of vendors there to use for that property.  You of course do not have to book at the open house that venue but you will also not have information available on other venues.

I want to share a list of helpful information for any of you that plan on attending one or more of these events to make it actually worth your time.

  1.  Before you attend the event have a list made on exactly what you are looking for (photographer, videographer, DJ, and so on).  This way when you arrive and are handed a map, you can circle all the booths you definitely want to see.
  2. Go as a couple!  It is great to get your bridesmaids together and have a fun girls day out but you essentially could be meeting someone that you want to book for your wedding and your fiance will not be there.  This would typically mean that instead of having the initial meeting out of the way, you will have to set up an additional appointment to meet them.  Plus, vendors love seeing couples together because it shows how involved and in love you two are.
  3. Share the correct information.  Although none of us love having tons of spam emails, these emails will be helpful to you as they are from all of the vendors at the show.  Some offer discounts, a free gift or other incentives for booking them so it is a great way to see special offers.  You can always opt out as you are receiving them.
  4. Pricing is key.  If you are on a strict budget, you need to be sure to meet vendors that fall within that budget.  If someone is significantly out of your budget and you want to book them, it will break your heart.  Get information on pricing before you go into getting to know the person.
  5. Shop around.  You are there to find the perfect venue or vendor that completes your style.  Be sure to visit multiple booths for each vendor so you can see their different styles, packages, and personalities in order to find the one that best fits you.  It is not always best to go with the biggest bargain.  Pricing ranges quite a bit, especially in Las Vegas.  Make sure your vendor has the experience and quality of work that you wish.
  6. Ask vendors important questions.  Be sure to ask each vendor if they have a business license as well as insurance.  Most of the vendors at a bridal show will definitely have this but this is great advice whether you are looking at a show or online.  Any one can be a planner or a DJ, be sure that you are actually getting someone that has a reputable company.  Most venues require a copy of the license as well as insurance for each vendor.
  7. Sign up to enter their contest.  The vendors already have your contact information from registration so do not be afraid to enter into their giveaways.  You will get emails from them regardless and you never know if you could be the winner of a free engagement photo shoot from an awesome photographer.
  8. Have fun! Enjoy every minute of these shows.  They are meant for you to take all the stress off you for your planning experience.  Take in everything it has to offer.  Enjoy cocktails, sweet tastings, fashion shows, everything they have to offer.

Finally I want to just add, if you still need help finding some vendors you can always hire a wedding planner for partial service planning to help you out.  Regardless if you need that or not I always highly suggest having a day of coordinator from an independant company.  All venues come with wedding coordinators but most of their responsiblilties fall on the venue side and does not include assisting in setting up any DIY decorations or making sure all of your vendors know how the day is going to flow.  Please feel free to contact me for any assistance in planning your gorgeous day!

Gorgeous Lake Tahoe Wedding

Allison and Brandon are not only a gorgeous couple but their wedding was without a doubt also just as gorgeous.  This wedding is different than most of the weddings we plan because instead of becoming lifelong friends after the wedding, we already had a close friendship.  In fact, I have basically known Brandon as long as I have known my husband.  He lived with us for a few months when I first moved into our home.  I will never forget when he met Allison.  It was like a spark went off and although we were not there, I knew that he was completely smitten over her.   Every time he talked about her he had a glowing smile that you could even “see” when you were just on the phone with him.  When we had the chance to meet Allison, the second I said Hello to her, I knew one day these two would marry.  Both of them just had this contagious love and smile from the very start of their relationship.

Living locally in Las Vegas, they decided to escape Sin City and wed in the ever so beautiful South Lake Tahoe.  Their wedding took place at Edgewood Tahoe.  The outdoor ceremony overlooking the mountains and the lake was breathtaking.  This is a backdrop that you can’t find as it is just the natural beauty of the land.  The reception was also at Edgewood just inside with the same views that looked unbelivable as the sunset.  The bridal party made their grand entrance letting guests know that it was time to party by toasting with shots of tequila.  Everyone at this wedding definitely had an amazing time as the dance floor never had room.  Thank you Allison and Brandon for trusting us to be part of your wedding day.  A huge thank you to their amazing photographer Nina Photography for capturing their day.  Here are some of my favorite photos from their wedding day:

Pool Party Wedding Reception

When I met Sara and TJ, I knew I had to immediately be part of their wedding.  They got married in June in Las Vegas and I never encourage an outside reception but theirs was brilliant.  I will add first, the family was coming in from the Ukraine and couldn’t wait to attend a traditional American wedding but this is not quite what they experienced.  The wedding ceremony was a beautiful traditional ceremony at the Sayer’s Club inside SLS.  Their guests were told though to wear resort casual and even their swimsuits.  Many were stunned when they invites arrived and no on showed up to the ceremony in their swimsuits. Everyone did however come to the cocktail hour and reception in their beach wear and ready to take a dive in the pool.  Their reception took place at the Lux Pool at SLS and it was a pool party reception.  They had the huge swan and flamingo rafts as decor for the pool so guests could enjoy a float on them.  This definitely wasn’t your traditional wedding reception but it was a huge hit.  This wedding was so much fun to plan and it truly was a great idea.  I encourage all of my summer couple’s if they must get married in Vegas in 100 + degree weather, why not do a fun nontraditional reception.

Gorgeous Wedding Signs by From Kelly With Love

 rustic weddig signs
With the growing world of technology and apps, weddings can be more confusing to plan due to the bride searching endless hours on Pinterest for ideas. A friend of mine is an amazing, talented artist and is a one stop shop for all your wedding sign needs. Her shop From Kelly With Love can be found on Etsy. She has tons of different wedding items and I’ll break down some of my favorites by ceremony and reception. (Please click on the photo to go directly to the listing on Etsy to purchase).

Ceremony:
1. Welcome Sign: Guest always feel special with an adorable welcome sign like this Sandwich board or aisle blocker. Y

2. Directional Sign: Some venues can be confusing to where the ceremony and reception take place. Get a fun direction sign so guests know exactly where everything will be.

 ceremony sign

3. Seating Sign: Ceremony seating can get confusing or if someone has a significant amount of people on their side it tends to feel uncomfortable for people to intermingle. This is a unity of two families joining together so why not have a sign to direct guests to side on either side?

4. Memorial Sign: It’s always a sweet idea to honor loved ones watching from heaven by having something to remember them by. Here are a couple different ideas for this:

A cross:

5. Ring bearer signs: The kids are always the first “awe” moment before the bride. Why not spice it up and add that extra awe with one of these adorable signs!

6. Guest book Sign: With all the different ideas in guestbooks that are created today, guests tend to get confused on where to sign their names. By having a sign with the guest book will allow guests to not miss out on sending you wishes. (check out my past blog for guestbook ideas)

7. Monogram: Becoming one family is showing how true love exists. Brides can now share their new monogram as soon as they become a Mrs. (Note: This could always double as a guest book.)

8. Cake sign: Cake tables always need extra decor that many couples forget to add. Why not get a cute sign to display with your cake and cutting set for that nice additional touch!

9. Favor sign: Favors are such a wide range of what people do now and If you are setting up a table just for favors, make sure you have a sign to let your guests know that it is ok to take one.

10. Bar sign: Many people do not decorate the bars at their wedding so they just sit as is. Most of your guests though tend to spend most of their time getting drinks so by adding a fun little sign to it will be a nice touch.

11. Social Media Sign: As I stated in the beginning of this blog, social media is huge. It’s a great way to see what your wedding looked like from all your guests perspective. Create a hashtag and get a sign like this so your guests can provide you with amazing photos.

12. Table Numbers: These are perfect little rustic table numbers, something which most venues do not provide so why not get something cute that you can reuse in the future for things such as other parties or kids birthdays.

13. Food Signs: Each wedding may have certain food, candy, or treat stations. Add the rustic touch with one of these.

Christina & Matt

Las Vegas wedding planner, desirable events by desi

Christina and Matt are a gorgeous couple who met in Las Vegas but both have midwestern family roots.  I met them a while back but ran into them again just as they were finishing up all their wedding details.  Christina seemed a little flustered on how the day would actually turn out and who would direct her vendors, bridal party, and guests.  I suggested hiring a day of coordinator and that is how I ended up with this gorgeous event.  She needed some advice on the little things such as rentals, table numbers and place cards so I offered my assistance in gathering the few details they had left.

This gorgeous wedding took place on May 9th, 2015 at the Westin Lake Las Vegas.  Their guest list of nearly 130 filled up the romantic ceremony space that overlooked the golf course and Lake Las Vegas.  It was decorated with flowers and draping by Layers of Lovely, lanterns and mirror stand from Sit on This, and the garden chairs from the Westin.  The floral with the lit candles made for the romantic look along with the lake in the background, which was so perfect for this 6pm wedding.  The aisle also was alined with rose petals and the entrance for the bridal party was a grand walk.  Christina’s Uncle was the officiant for the ceremony and Matt’s sister did a reading which made the two families come together and brought a heart felt touch to the wedding.  Prior to the wedding, Christina and Matt did a letter exchange where they shared their love for one another that Matt’s Brother (the best man) exchanged with Christina and they each read aloud for the videographer.  They did this in place of their own vows to omit any nervous tension.

Following the wedding the guests stayed in the space and were served cocktails while Christina and Matt took their photos together.  About 30 minutes into the outdoor cocktail hour the wind really picked up and eventually we had a few rain sprinkles.  The room was ready so most of the guests didn’t even feel a drop of rain as they headed to the ballroom reception space.  I was worried about photos of Matt and Christina because there were a ton of outdoor spots they were going to use. Moxie Studio was their photographer and as windy/rainy as it was, they couldn’t have done a better job getting the shots in.  They had gorgeous clouds and even a rainbow in their shots.  We may not be able to control the weather, but they couldn’t have asked for more perfect timing.  Plus, a little rain is good luck right!

The reception was set with similar flower arrangements and lanterns from the ceremony with a few additions.  As guests entered they were greeted with a Thank you sign made by one of the bridesmaids as well as their blush glitter place cards that the bride put lots of detail in.  Guests sat in beautiful gold chiavari chairs with an ivory cushions and had gold chargers at their place settings. The sweetheart table had a very elegant chandelier above it provided by Sit on This.  The reception began with a grand entrance from the large bridal party of 13 plus the cutest little flower girl and ring bearer.  Then it was time for the new Mr. and Mrs. Bees to be announced by the amazing DJ Harry O.  They look absolutely gorgeous and so in love as they entered.  They immediately took the dance floor and danced a choreographed dance to Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”.  It was adorable and they danced so elegantly.  Following this was a blessing by Christina’s father followed by dinner. After dinner, the best man and maid of honor speeches were made along with a thank you from the couple.  The cake cutting of their chic wedding cake by Las Vegas Custom Cakes took place next.  Then Christina did a father daughter dance as Lighten Films captured this along with the entire wedding.  Finally the dance floor opened for guests to dance and I must say this dance floor was never empty.  In the middle, Christina (a former sorority member), asked her Alpha Chi Omega girls to join her on the dance floor.  They entered the dance floor with glow sticks which were their wedding favors and danced away to Dj Skrilla’s “Alpha Chi Omega Anthem”.  Guests were also handed glow sticks to join in on the fun and they sure danced the night away.  I haven’t planned a wedding where when the lights came on and every single guest were still on the dance floor wanting more.  They eventually were sent to the hotel bar to continue the celebration.  It was such a great group of people and truly an honor to be part of such a gorgeous event.

Weddings- 20 Ways to Honor those who have Passed

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

Many couples getting married want to honor loved ones who have passed. There is no particular way for this to be done, however, I have compiled a few weddings I have done along with ideas I found to share with all of you. It’s very difficult to lose a loved one as a year ago today I lost my grandmother/best friend to cancer. It’s important no matter what to always keep those who past close to our hearts and celebrate the life they had and gave us. Here is a list of ways to incorporate them into your wedding ceremony or reception.

Ceremony:
1. Wedding bouquet- Many brides will do different things in the wedding bouquet to honor a loved one especially if it is their father who passed away. This way his spirit is still there walking down the aisle with her.

A. Adding a flower that stands out.  Two of my brides dad’s passed away and this is how they had their bouquets. One did a single red rose in a bouquet of pink for her father. The other kept her fathers favorite shirt, added dad to it, and made it into a rose for her bouquet.

B. Add a charm to it. You can add a family charm or purchase one that reminds you of your loved one. I made a bouquet for one of my brides and friend which I surprised her by adding a key charm and wrote a note to her “key to your father’s heart, he is with you always especially today to walk you down the aisle”. She wanted to keep it discrete and not get overwhelmed and upset on her day without him. It was the perfect touch without everyone making a big deal since they had no idea. You could also add a locket charm with their picture on it.

2. Reserved Seating. Some couples choose to designate the front row to loved ones who have passed. You can do this in a few different ways.

A. Ribbon off they area; add a beautiful sign or flower honoring them.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

B. Add photos to the front row of chairs of each loved one.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

3.Programs- this is a more traditional way of honoring them. In the program somewhere you could add a little prayer or saying with the names of your loved ones who past or just list those who are celebrating in heaven.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

4. Ceremony memorial candle- Many times you do a unity ceremony. This could double as a way of honoring your loved ones or in the very beginning of ceremonies. It’s always so special for the couple to light a candle for their loved ones whom passed.

5. Officiant honors loved ones- even if you are not having a spiritual or religious ceremony it is always nice to have your officiant say a prayer or words to those celebrating above.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

6. Dove or butterfly send off- This is a beautiful way to celebrate the lives of loved ones. A couple we had did a dove send off following their ceremony. It was magical and they are so well trained. This is a great way to wow your guests.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

7. Wedding signs- there are many signs out there which honor loved ones. A very close friend of mine designs these type of signs.  Please check out her Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/FromKellyWithLove

8. Wear something of theirs- Every bride wants something borrowed of course. If you personally do not have anything of your loved ones ask around to see if anyone in the family has something from them. It could be jewelry, brooches, clothing, Etc. Below are a few pics. One bride had her dads blue shirt made into her dress for her something blue and to honor him or in the other photo I wore my great grandmother’s earrings.

9. Use something they gave you- This could be a variety of things. Of course it is similiar to above but maybe they gave you something from their wedding such and toasting flutes, cake cutters, veil, etc. Even a gift they gave you that falls into your wedding theme is a great idea.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

10. Groom idea-boutonniere with pic of loved ones charm. It’s not just the bride who may have lost someone. An alternative to your flower boutonniere is having a photo charm of your loved one close to your heart or add to your flower like picture below.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

Reception

11. Memorial table- having photos of your loved ones as guests enter is a great way to honor them and lets guests see where you came from.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planningLoved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

12. Favors
A. In lieu of gifts, donations can be made to a charity that honors your loved one. Whether it be one that supports cures for the illness they passed away from or a charity that was close to their heart. This is a perfect way to actually give something more to them.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

B. Give something they love- My grandmother loved playing cards and although she was still alive when we had our wedding a perfect favor would be a deck of cards. Having a Vegas wedding just ties it all in together.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

13. Have someone speak about them. Many times the couple gets choked up knowing their loved ones couldn’t be there. It’s a good idea to designate someone to speak on your behalf about them. We planned a wedding where the brother in law of the bride spoke about her father who had passed. It was so meaningful and a beautiful experience for everyone. Although it did shed many tears it was a joyous moment knowing everyone was honoring him in that moment of his daughters life.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

14. Table numbers- Instead of having your traditional table numbers you can use photos of them. If you are doing place cards you print wallet size photos for your guests and they find the table that matches their photos. This is a great way to incorporate them into your reception.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

15. Song- have a special song set aside for those who have passed. Whether it be someone’s favorite song or a meaningful one for all who passed everyone can dance to celebrate their past life. Two of my favorite choices are Miranda Lambert “the house the built me” and Dani and Lizzy “Dancing in the Sky”Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

16. Angel wings on back of bride and groom chairs. I saw this picture and thought it is such a cute way to honor your loved ones. If you don’t want to get too emotional and sad on your day this is another subtle way of still honoring them without all the tears.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

17. Leis/bracelets- having guests and everyone wear leis throughout the wedding or something that stands out to honor them is a great way to show your appreciation and love for them. If someone passed away from pancreatic cancer, hand out purple or breast cancer (pink). This just adds another special touch.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

18.  In your Thank You speech- while you say your “Thank You’s to your guests” add a part to think of those whom are no longer with you.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

19.  Incorporating what they love in reception- Whether it be something I have already mentioned or literally setting a space for them during the reception this is a very memorable way to show how much love goes to those celebrating in heaven.  Found this gem on Pinterest and love the idea.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

20. Writing a message on a balloon or Chinese lantern. This is a cute send off alternative which makes not only great photos but also a way for all guests to be involved honoring those loved ones who passed.

Loved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planningLoved ones who passed, weddings, las vegas wedding planner, wedding coordinator las vegas, honoring loved ones during wedding, wedding memorials, wedding planning

In any event you always think of how great it would be if those who are no longer with you could be there to celebrate with you.  Just remember although they are not physically with you, they will still be celebrating with you in spirit.  Honoring loved ones throughout your life’s milestones is very important to keep your family traditions going and share their love throughout generations to come.

As I said before I dedicate this blog to my grandmother Mille (first picture).  She was a true beauty inside and out.  She taught me so many things.  She made me who I am today, a strong, hard working, caring person and I would give anything to spend one more day with her.

“I love you forever, I like you for always, even in heaven, your baby I’ll be!”

New Year’s Eve Wedding

Joey & Lori

Las vegas suite wedding

Who wouldn’t want to attend a New Year’s Eve wedding especially when this amazing couple are the hosts? I first spoke to Joey and Lori right after the holidays in the beginning of 2014. The way we were introduced is bittersweet. They had booked an amazing officiant, Reverend Jimmy Mac with whom I have worked with in the past and became a great mentor. They knew if he approved than I was the perfect fit for them seeing as Lori’s stepfather actually attended High School with Jimmy Mac. About a month before the wedding we had shocking news that saddened all of us which was the sudden passing of a great friend and amazing man Jimmy Mac. If it weren’t for him, I would not have been part of this amazing and gorgeous wedding day and I know he was with us all in spirit.

Lori and Joey met online.  One of my blogs “First BLIND Date” was actually inspired by them.  They met after months of speaking online and had the perfect date at Lori’s sister’s house.  He was blindfolded when he showed up as well as Lori and they sat for hours talking to each other and enjoying each other blindfold.  Lori’s bridesmaid actually put on the whole date and listened through baby monitors.  At the end of the date Joey couldn’t take it any longer and had to see his gorgeous date.  Please see my past blog for more information on “First Blind Dates”.

fun bride photoWedding coordinators las vegasWedding New years

Lori had one request for her wedding and that was she wanted it on New Years Eve. We decided to rent a suite and have a New Years party/wedding done Vegas style. Since we began planning so far out, most hotels did not know the room rates and if there would even be a suite available for them to rent. After using my negation skills I believe we could not have chose a better location. Joey and Lori were wed in a two story loft suite at the M Resort. For those of you unfamiliar with this resort, it is located about two miles south of Mandalay Bay off the strip but still on Las Vegas Blvd. With breathtaking 270 degree views you can not go wrong with this choice in venue. They rented the two connecting rooms as well.  One room we had all the catering in and the other room we had a photobooth in for guests to enjoy.  The photobooth doubled as favors for their guests and was another guestbook for the couple.

Being a New Year’s Eve wedding, their theme was a fun, elegant party.  They served their guests hot and cold Hors D’oeurves and an assortment of Beer, Wine, liquor and of course Champagne.  Lori and Joey love Rotari Rose so I special ordered 2 cases for them through the liquor distributor.  As guests entered the room for the ceremony, they were served Champagne or Beer.  Lori joked that she had “Champagne taste on a Beer Budget” so the preceremony drinks were perfect for her taste.  We used the rest of the champagne as a midnight toast when we did a countdown to midnight.  Each champagne flute was rimmed with gold sugar to add that extra elegant touch for their New Year’s Eve wedding.

The two story suite was set up perfectly for guests to enjoy music and dancing.  The DJ was set up on the top floor balcony overlooking the bottom level of the suite.  The bottom is where they guests were able to dance and get their drinks from the bar.  It was the perfect touch for any hotel suite wedding.  As I mentioned previously, the M Resort has breathtaking views.  On New Year’s Eve at midnight something beautiful happens in Las Vegas in which their guests enjoyed perfect views from.  The Las Vegas strip has fireworks in different locations throughout the strips which was the perfect ending to a beautiful wedding.  I even got a little choked up by the fireworks and had tears in my eyes.  You can’t make up or dream of such a beautiful fairy tale.

Finally at the end of the night just after the fireworks, they wanted guests to grab their coats, a drink, and meet us downstairs for a sparkler send off.  Everyone who came received sparklers and we timed it just right to give the couple their final send off.  It was a magical moment for Joey and Lori and definitely a memorable wedding/ New Year’s for everyone who attended.  In my opinion, one of the best ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve is a wedding.  Especially if you can make it intimate and beautiful like this Suite wedding.  No one likes planning their New Year’s so why not plan it for them with not only a great party  but by sharing your love for one another in front of your favorite and closest friends.
